You gather your group. We guide. Research shows that experiencing novelty, awe and 'restorative breaks' are important for our relationships and our cognitive and creative wellbeing. So consider an Elements Custom Experience for your next gathering, celebration or company event.

 
 

Custom Day (Half or Full)

We will guide you on a curated hike where you and your group will be shoulder to shoulder, authentically communing and connecting. Let us indulge you along the journey; whether we pull out the stops and provide an Elements trail-side spread of food and libations or simply head out on a hike and lead the way so you can engage in the natural beauty and your time with your friends.

For full day Experience, we can coordinate lunch and options for a creative, cultural or wellness Add-Ons with one of our many Elements Partners.

Custom Overnight (1 or 2 Nights)

Gather your group and we’ll meet you in the mountains for curated and guided hikes, trail-side, gourmet picnics and options for all sorts of unique Add-Ons (think yoga, wine tastings & vineyard tour...) . One night is good but two nights are even better! Let’s book another night away and really experience the powerful effects of your Elements Experience. 

Elements can reserve the lodging and add-on arrangements or provide suggestions to you.

Seasonal Experiences for Adults

Throughout the year, Elements schedules hourly, weekly and overnight Experiences (formerly titled Recess, reBOOTs and reTREATs). These are open to individuals, groups of friends and sometimes even your dog. We love to share the trail and watch as connections unfold, discoveries are made and psyches are renewed. Week of Walks

Explore, Exercise, Connect, Commune; one woodland walk at a time

The Elements Week of Walks is a week devoted to you: a week to get outside, active and grounded. All you need to do to reboot your mind, body and spirit is lace up and let The Elements DC lead the way. The result? A stronger, healthier, more grounded YOU. 

Our Spring and Autumn Weeks of Walks are each 7 days long and include 15+ local walk and 1 all day hike. 

2 Elements guides on most walks so varied paces welcomed.

Overnight(s)

A Rejuvenating Getaway: 1 to 2 boutique hotel nights & mountain Hikes

Indulge in an invigorating escape. Venture out of town to the mountains for heart pumping hikes, paired with delicious food, yoga and stays at luxurious, boutique hotels. The Elements guides do the heavy lifting, literally — by carrying picnics, maps first aid kits etc, and figuratively by curating the routes so you can focus on the beauty! Our priority is your safety but rest assured, fun, adventure and food are all gunning for second place!

When will we get detailed schedule for the Elements Seasonal Week of Walks and final itinerary for Seasonal Overnights? +

Seasonal Week of Walks & Walks A La Carte: WoWers can see the Walk Schedule (with general area of walks) right now on the Week of Walks event page. You will get your first official WoW email 48 hours before the first walk. This email will have the schedule with exact information on locations, and extra info you need to know. You can also expect a daily email (starting 2 days before Week of Walks) with updates and inspiration from the trail.

Seasonal Overnight Experiences will receive a detailed itinerary, packing list and regional info 2 weeks prior to the scheduled overnights.

Custom Experiences will receive tentative itinerary and details during proposal and finalized details during planning stages.

Will I be able to keep up with the hiking pace and fitness level? +

The Week of Walks takes place in the DC/MD/VA region where we have steep hills but are not climbing mountains. For our 90, 2 hour and all day walks we have two Elements guides; one to set the pace in front and the other to pull up the back.

Our walks are right for your fitness level if:

  • You can maintain a walking pace of 4 to 5 mph
  • You are ok with trails that can be rooty, rocky and rugged with the occasional climbs and descents.
  • You are free of any injury or illness that could impair your ability to walk safely and comfortably on trails and city sidewalks.
  • You are willing and game to get your heart pumping and your muscles working.
  • The pace for our walks is steady and supportive but we do adhere to a tight schedule so people can partake in walks and then get on with their ‘to do’s’.

The Overnight Experiences are right for your fitness level if:

  • You are familiar and comfortable hiking mountain trails with occasional stream crossings, steep climbs/descents, loose, crumbly, slick footing, rock scrambling and other unforeseen obstacles.
  • You are free of any injury or illness that could impair your ability to walk safely and comfortably on trails and city sidewalks.
  • You are fine carrying a day pack with your own water, clothing layers and creature comforts.
  • Your mountain pace is between 2- 4 mph. We normally have two guides so one can lead a faster pace and the other a slower pace.

If you have concerns about your safety and abilities, we ask that you reach out to us to discuss suitability.

Do you reschedule if the weather is bad? +

Our primary concerns are you, your safety, and that you have a positive experience! We proceed on our hikes in light rain but if the weather is dangerous or awful, we pivot. For the Signature Experiences (Week of Walks), we will try to re-schedule any missed hikes. For the Seasonal and Custom Overnights, we provide all sorts of information on cool, cultural things to do in lieu of hiking or while we wait out the storm.

What are the refund policies? +

Seasonal Week of Walks:

If you have registered and have to cancel prior to the issuance of the detailed walk information, we will refund your payment less $10 admin/credit card fee. No refunds issued once Week has begun.

Seasonal Walk A La Carte:

No refunds for single walks unless we have to cancel due to dangerous weather.

Seasonal Overnight(s):

  • Full payment is expected at time of registration.
  • If you have to cancel your spot 30 days prior to your scheduled Elements Overnight, we will offer a refund less a $50 admin & cancellation fee.
  • If you have to cancel within 30 days of your scheduled Overnight, we are unable to offer a refund unless we can pull a participant from an existing waitlist.

Elements Reschedule & Cancellation Policy:

  • If we reschedule a Seasonal Overnight (due to weather or personnel issues) and the new dates work for your schedule, we will forward your registration fee to the newly scheduled date in lieu of a refund.

  • Elements will fully refund registered participants if we have to cancel a Seasonal Elements Experience.

  • Elements Custom Experiences: The organizer will be issued Terms & Conditions information pertinent to the Custom offering

Hotel Refund Policy:

Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the refund policy of the overnight partner hotel. The George Hotel in Lexington has a 72 hour cancellation policy.

How many people come on the walks and overnights +

Walks typically have from 3 to 10 people per walk but the number of participants can vary depending on the adventure.

Our minimum number for overnights depends on destination and capacity at hotel but is typically min of 6 people.

What should I wear & carry? +

Our Elements mantra is always dress and prepare for the weather. With that in mind we ask everyone to carry their own water, creature comforts (sunblock, sunglasses, hat) and rain/wind jacket.

For our local Seasonal or Custom Experiences we recommend exercise clothes and running shoes or trail shoes.

For our Overnights, we will send a detailed packing list but in a nutshell, we ask everyone to carry a day pack and be prepared with layers:

  • SYNTHETIC BASE LAYER: Something close to the skin that wicks away moisture.
  • INSULATING LAYER: Something fluffy and downy.
  • PROTECTIVE LAYER: Something to keep the wind, water, and snow out.
  • HEAD, HANDS AND FEET: Hat, gloves or mittens, warm socks, and good boots.

What's the phone policy? +

Use of phones are discouraged during The Elements D.C. adventures. Our goal is to unplug, be present in the moment, and engage in our surroundings. If you need to have a phone with you (as most adults do), we ask that you put the ringer to silent or vibrate; and refrain from making calls or texts until the end of the outing. All instructors have cell phones and walkie talkies for emergency purposes.
